Soul Sister The Scarlet Rope 21 AUG 2011
Soul Sisters The Scarlet Rope 21 AUG 2011 Message: The Scarlet Rope
• A season of war
• Rahab the Rescuer: Joshua 2:1-24
o Spies & Lies
o Faith & Promises
o Scarlet Hope
• People on the Fringe
• God looks at the heart
• Small things – big results
Take Out:
**Read Joshua 2:9-11, considering Rahab’s template, write out your own personalized statement of faith. Perhaps consider what you would say if cornered and asked to declare your faith.
**God used Rahab’s scarlet cord, something small and perhaps insignificant. What in your life might be a ‘scarlet chord’ that God could use to advance His purposes in your sphere of influence?

Soul Sisters: Abigail to the Rescue - 11 SEP 2011
Souls Sisters: Abigail to the Rescue 11 SEP 2011 ‘Beauty and the Beast’
When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. Proverbs 31:26
• David’s anger with religious zeal
• Abigail’s ‘rebuke’
• You & Me in the perfect storm?
• Abigail like Jesus
Take out:
Reread 1Samuel 25 and note which verse stands out to you most, and why.
Abigail’s petition to David is a great model for all conflict management; considering verses 23-31:
• Identify all the times Abigail refers to David as “my lord” or to herself as “your servant”? How else does she humble herself in the process of delivering her correction?
• What implications and applications are there for us today as we look at Abigail’s correction to David?
o For example, her initiative and independence. The generous and practical approach, coupled with a self-sacrificing and atoning tone.
• How is Abigail like Jesus?

Soul Sisters: Meet Ms. Wisdom 18 SEP 2011
SouMessage: “Meet Ms Wisdom”
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
Proverbs 31:26
Wisdom from Mom: Proverbs 31
• 2 Poems
• Strength and Stereotypes
• From Moral to Loving
• Wisdom isn’t wisdom until _______________
We need each other: Genesis 1:26-27
Take out:
Review Proverbs 31. ** Consider this quote from Jerram Barrs in Through His Eyes: God’s Perspective on Women in the Bible. “Our culture makes the mistake of believing that fulfillment comes to us when we live to love and serve ourselves. It does not. Fulfillment comes about only through loving and serving other people. This is true for women, and it is true for men. This is the way God is, and this is the way he has designed us to be.”
• What evidence do you see of this idea in Proverbs 31?
• Note the ways the ‘Proverbs 31 woman’ parallels Wisdom in 1:20-33; 3:15; 4:6; 8:14; 8:18; 8:22-31; 9:4-6.
• In what ways your life demonstrates wisdom and ways it doesn’t?

Soul Sisters 24 JUL 2011: Persisting through Pain
Soul sisters: Learning from the ladies
"Persisting through Pain" 1 Samuel 1:1-20
- Hurting Hannah (Grace)
- 'Grace' under fire - Romans 4:3-4; Galatians 5:22-23
- Let's Make a Deal? Psalm 103:8; Isaiah 1:13-17; Romans 12:1; Hebrews 4:15-16
Take out:
1. Review Hannah's prayer of celebration in 1 Samuel 2:1-10, making special note of all the images of "reversals" - places where positions are reversed and powers are displaced.
**What do these dramatic reversals tell us about God's power and justice?
**Can you think of any specific examples from scripture where "reversals" are demonstrated through the life and teaching of Jesus?
2. Now read the prayer of an expecting mother in Luke 1:39-55. Can you identify any parallels between Mary's and Hannah's prayer?
